The bungalows

Bungalows on stilts with a hammock on the terrace, facing the beach. Rooms have a large bed for two with a mosquito net, and a plank-walled bathroom with a shower.

Meals, power and signal

Home-cooked meals are prepared by your hosts and served at the dining table. Village power in Sauwandarek usually runs all night. Signal is weak, so plan to be offline.

Things to do

Sauwandarek jetty, in the same village, is a snorkel and dive site with shallow reef and a wide variety of reef fish. A forest trail runs north past an inland lake to Yenbekwan village, and on to Yenbuba with a guide. At low tide the sandbanks lead across to Kri.

Boat pickup and drop-off from Waisai can be added when you book.

Good to know

Sauwandarek is an Adventist village that keeps the Sabbath every Saturday. Trips that day must be arranged ahead, and guests are asked to keep quiet until services end around noon. Shops sell only basics, and please take inorganic waste home.
