Sampari Paradise Homestay

Sampari Paradise Homestay sits on the east coast of Pulau Rambau, near the western tip of Batanta. Its wooden bungalows, built by hand by the family, stand in a row facing the sea.

The bungalows

Each has an ensuite bathroom with a western toilet. A bungalow sleeps two on floor mattresses with bedding and a mosquito net. An extra mattress for a third guest can be added, and children get a discount.

Meals, power and internet

Three meals a day, with free drinking water, tea and coffee at any time. The beachside dining room is being renovated and is in its final stage.

Power comes from a generator, from sunset until around midnight. Other hours are possible if you pay for extra fuel. Starlink WiFi is now available. The 4G signal here is very weak, so the internet runs on the WiFi.

Things to do

Great snorkelling starts right off the beach, with healthy coral, seagrass and the occasional dugong. Bring your own snorkel gear. Snorkelling trips to Pulau Dayan and other reefs, a waterfall through the mangroves, and Yenyar village with its traditional houses can be arranged for an extra fee. The forest is full of birds, including the maleo.

The family is warm and treats you like one of their own, the food is plentiful and different every day, the rooms are clean, and the place is peaceful.

Getting there

Longboat pickup and drop-off from Waisai can be added when you book. One boat carries up to five people and is priced per boat.

Good to know

The family speaks little English, so bring an offline translation app. The nearest village, Yenyar, is 10 minutes away by boat and has only basic supplies. Please take your inorganic rubbish home with you.
